Cycling 874 miles, the distance between John O’Groats and Lands Ends, on spin bikes and in just one day is no easy feat. But it’s a challenge that the Vantage team were happy to accept in aid of their charity partner, Katharine House Hospice.
Katharine House Hospice provides invaluable support and care not only to patients with life-limiting conditions, but to their friends and families too. To continue the fantastic work they do within the local community, the hospice has to raise two-thirds of their fund through donations. So, the team decided to set ourselves the target of raising £7,000, the total cost to run the hospice and all its services for 24 hours, over the next 12 months.
The spin bike challenge was the first of several fundraising challenges we have planned in order to hit this target. We’re thrilled to announce that, despite it being a particularly chilly day, the team cycled hard outside the Vantage offices all day and managed to complete the full 874 miles. Not only that, we also managed to raise a fantastic £2,115 through kind donations from our clients and business contacts. This amount can cover the cost of 12 patients receiving a care visit in their own home or 11 people to attend a well-being day session at Katharine House hospice.
Despite this wonderful result, the challenge was nearly put in jeopardy after the first spin bike provider we had organised had to pull out at the last minute. Thankfully, i-Motion gym came to the rescue. As soon as they heard about the challenge and the difference it could make to Katharine House, they were eager to get involved and lent us six of their spin bikes for the day. Without their generosity the challenge wouldn’t have been possible.
Holly Addison, who is a corporate fundraiser at Katharine House said about the challenge: “I am delighted to be working with Vantage. The team are so enthusiastic and determined to reach their goal which is wonderful to see and is evident in this first challenge. Raising over £2000 in such a short space of time is incredible and the money will go such a long way here at Katharine House. On behalf of all patients, staff and volunteers here at the hospice, we are truly grateful for the support and we cannot wait to see what they take on next!”
The spin bike challenge was the first of many fundraising challenges we have planned over the next twelve months. From Extreme Warrior fun runs to dress down days, we’re striving to hit or even surpass our £7000 target.
