Commercial Code Change Lead

Role Overview

Industry codes are the contracts that underpin the operational and commercial relationships in the energy industry. The Commercial Code team supports the business to operate within our regulatory licensed activities, providing expert regulatory support to the business in order to maximise benefits for end consumers and Great Britain.

Commercial Code Change Leads facilitate and drive the change process that underpin the operational and commercial relationships in GB. We ensure that the Energy Codes are understandable and reflect both stakeholder needs and government policy aims. We are looking for people with regulation, policy, and code change experience to join a team that will deliver an exciting new perspective on industry codes in GB enabling the transition to net zero.

Key Accountabilities

Work across the energy industry to identify and analyse issues within the current industry codes and wider market frameworks, with the ability to present key findings and recommendations. As part of that:

• Create and manage change plans that impact both internal and external business processes.
• Represent the business and the interests of energy consumers by managing, developing and implementing industry code changes. In particular, identify and manage technical and commercial risk, while inputting and engaging on complex modifications to CUSC, BSC, connection reforms and charging methodologies.
• Collaborate closely with colleagues, customers, stakeholders (including DESNZ and Ofgem) and consumers to ensure that commercial, technical and regulatory arrangements deliver optimal benefit to consumers.
• Understand the evolving requirements of stakeholders as the energy system changes at pace. Work to align industry frameworks with our commercial and regulatory strategies in order to provide value to consumers, customers, industry stakeholders.
• Negotiate with, manage, and influence key stakeholders who all have competing priorities or end goals, respecting their confidentiality.

Essential

• Good knowledge of the energy industry and awareness of future developments.

• Experience in the energy industry and in the regulatory arena.
• Understanding of connections reforms.
• Experience working on connections reforms.
• Experience of CUSC and code working groups
• Proven experience in Stakeholder Management.
• Ability to work with stakeholders to enact strategic change.
• Strong communicator with excellent writing skills.
