Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Buckinghamshire (Fully Onsite)
Contract Type: Contract - Inside IR35
Rate: Up to £60 per hour
Duration: Initial 6 months (likely extension)

We are supporting a well-established packaging machinery manufacturer based in Buckinghamshire who are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer on a contract basis.

This role will suit an engineer with strong automation and special purpose machinery experience, capable of working end-to-end on complex machinery projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The position is fully onsite and inside IR35, requiring close collaboration with mechanical, controls, and commissioning teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Electrical design of automated packaging machinery and bespoke special purpose equipment

• Creation and modification of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts

• Selection and specification of electrical components (PLCs, drives, safety devices, sensors, instrumentation)

• Design of control panels in line with relevant standards and internal best practices

• Support machine builds, panel manufacture, and shop-floor wiring activities

• Work closely with:

  • Mechanical design engineers

  • Controls / PLC engineers

  • Manufacturing and commissioning teams

• Ensure compliance with:

  • Machinery Directive

  • BS EN standards

  • Functional safety requirements where applicable

• Assist with fault-finding and design changes during build and commissioning phases

• Produce and maintain technical documentation, BOMs, and design packs

Essential Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as an Electrical Design Engineer within:

  • Automation

  • Packaging machinery

  • Special purpose machinery (SPM)

• Strong background in industrial electrical design (not building services)

• Experience designing for fully automated machinery environments

• Proficiency with electrical CAD tools such as:

  • EPLAN

  • SolidWorks Electrical

  • AutoCAD Electrical (or similar)

• Strong understanding of:

  • Control panels

  • Industrial control systems

  • Electrical safety and compliance

• Comfortable working fully onsite within a manufacturing environment

• Able to work autonomously while integrating into an existing engineering team

Desirable Experience

• Exposure to high-speed packaging machinery

• Knowledge of PLC platforms (Siemens, Rockwell, Beckhoff, etc.) - design support level

• Experience working alongside commissioning teams

• Familiarity with risk assessments, FMEAs, and safety circuits
