My client is looking for a talented, ambitious, hardworking, experienced and accountable Electrical / Electronic Design Engineer to join their engineering team. This role will have primary responsibility for developing new products and improving performance across key applications.
Reporting directly to the Hardware Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for conceptualising, designing, testing and documenting the electrical and electronic aspects of a range of hardware products used within my client's machines and instruments.
As well as being educated to BSc level or higher in a relevant discipline, you will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and team-working skills. You must be comfortable presenting concepts and designs to other highly skilled electrical engineers, as well as to non-electrical engineers (mechanical, software) and senior management.
Conceptualise electrical and electronic schematics in line with project specifications.
Produce detailed electrical drawings and PCB layouts.
Test designs on machines or instruments and continuously improve performance.
Liaise with suppliers and production teams to complete and maintain technical files, including work instructions, BOMs, CAD drawings (AutoCAD), schematics and datasheets.
Take designs from prototype through to full production.
Maintain and improve existing PCB and electrical designs, selecting appropriate components and ensuring robust layouts.
Demonstrate a full understanding of CE / UKCA marking, including evaluating design safety, assessing Performance Level and Category, and advising on suitable components and architectures to meet required safety standards.
Gather information on technical issues, escalate where required, and propose effective engineering solutions.
You will be able to demonstrate experience and knowledge of the following:
Fault finding on PCBs and specifying components to third-party suppliers.
Wiring electrical cabinets incorporating PLC systems (Beckhoff experience is advantageous but not essential).
Designing machinery to PLd and/or Category 3.
Use of hand tools for soldering PTH and SMD components (nice to have).
Use of multimeters and oscilloscopes.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical and electronic drawings.
Designing electrical systems and PCBs for the control of machinery or instruments, including motors, solenoid valves, actuators, DC motors, stepper motors, PNP sensors and encoders.
Proficiency in MS PowerPoint and Excel.
Firmware / software programming skills (Beckhoff desirable).
