Salary: £55,000-£60,000 base

Travel: 2-4 days/week on-site

Role Overview

Own BMS delivery across new-build data centre projects from design to handover.

Scope:

• 2-4 concurrent projects
• Project duration: 6-18 months
• First 12 months: data centres in Slough

You act as the technical lead on-site and remotely, coordinating design, software, commissioning, and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

Design (20-30% of time)

• Produce system architecture for BMS packages (£5m-£20m+)
• Create points schedules (500-5,000+ points per project)
• Define control strategies for HVAC systems (CRAC, CRAH, chillers)
• Review consultant specs + align with client requirements

Software / Programming (20-30%)

• Develop BMS logic using EcoStruxure Building Operation
• Integrate third-party systems via BACnet / Modbus / LonWorks
• Configure alarms, trends, graphics

Commissioning (20-30%)

• Lead commissioning on live sites
• Witness FAT + SAT
• Deliver end-to-end system validation (IO testing → integrated systems testing)
• Resolve defects within defined SLAs (typically 24-72 hours)

Site Leadership (20%)

• Manage 3-10 engineers + subcontractors
• Plan site activities (weekly lookaheads)
• Ensure delivery against programme milestones
• Maintain HSE compliance across works

Stakeholder Management

• Interface with main contractors, consultants, and end clients
• Attend weekly progress meetings (site + client)
• Provide technical input to commercial + project teams

The Ideal Candidate

Experience

• 6-7 years in BMS / Building Automation
• Delivered ≥2 projects valued £1m+ (BMS scope)
• Experience on data centres OR other mission-critical environments

Technical Skills

• Strong experience with EcoStruxure Building Operation (or similar platforms like Trend, Siemens, or Tridium)
• HVAC plant knowledge (chillers, AHUs, CRAC/CRAH units)
• Protocols: BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus
• Ability to read + produce control schematics

Leadership

• Managed site teams (3-10 engineers)
• Coordinated subcontractors across multiple trades
• Delivered projects to defined timelines (±2-4 weeks variance typical)
